An Internet Protocol or (IP) camera is a type of digital video camera most commonly employed for surveillance, and unlike analogue closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, can send and receive data via a computer network and the internet.
IP cameras are different from previous generation analogue cameras which transmitted video signals as a voltage, whereas IP camera images are sent using the transmission and security features of the Transmission Control (TCP) or Internet Protocol (IP).

With a higher resolution, there is more detail within the captured image. With CCTV technology, a recorded image generally has no more than 0.1 megapixels common intermediate format (CIF) whereas one single IP camera with 3.1 megapixels has 30 times more recording visual capacity. Also, because everything is processed in the actual IP camera, the high-resolution images do not have to be constantly transferred for analysis which means the network bandwidth will be lower and you will need less storage devices.
